This Clash tshirt features a painting of Paul Simonon by Ray Lowry whilst on tour with The Clash on their US Tour, and is a classic piece of Rays art. Ray would sketch the band whilst they played, often standing at the back of the gig or side of stage, he would then return to his hotel room and work late into the night to finish the piece adding colour from memory. At first glance Rays work appears scratchy but on closer inspection the personalities and movement of the individual band members can be seen. Ray also captured the raw energy of the performance, which demonstrates why Joe Strummer selected Ray as the bands war artist.Ray Lowry understands the very essence of rock and roll and unusually for an artist he can capture it.
